VICTORIA FALLS • AUGUST 25-28, 2026

Everyone has a bucket list, and if it doesn't include Victoria Falls scrawled in permanent marker, an audit is in order. It is literally the edge of the abyss where the Zambezi rips a hole in the earth. Some quaint waterfall? Yeah right. More like a primal roar, an undisputed Natural Wonder of the World. During peak season, an absurd, staggering torrent of over 500 million liters (200 Olympic-sized swimming pools aka 1088m³/s) of water per minute hurtles over the lip, creating a mile-wide, thundering sheet of liquid annihilation that has earned the local title, "The Smoke That Thunders." Forget subtle beauty; this is brute force, geological swagger, and a non-negotiable death-defying checkpoint for anyone who claims to be chasing the world’s most intense spectacles before they cash out. Yes please.

And gentle reminder, this is a Seasick offering, not some four-day holiday that grandpa enjoyed back in the day. Sure, the obligatory walking tour of the falls is included but that is simply the warmup. After all, people need to scope the scene before they immerse themselves, right? Jet boat in the 300' gorge (helmets + prayers required)—included. Bungee jump, bungee swing, or zipline (don’t be a chicken)—included. Grand finale (not literally because that would be morbid), a light dip in Devil’s Pool (Google it if needed)—definitely included. And where to rest thy head at night? Nothing but one of the finest accommodations in Lusaka. A 4-star resort situated on the banks of the magnificent Zambezi River. These four days are totally different from the adjacent safaris, no sitting around in jeeps waiting, wanting, and watching for animals to appear.

AFRICA

Africa is an ancient terrain—expansive, elemental, and still writing the original story of life on Earth. Nicknamed the Mother Continent for good reason, it’s where human history began and where it continues to unfold in color, cadence, and wild scale. With 54 recognized countries, over 1,500 languages (depending on who’s counting), and ecosystems that stretch from coastal jungle to bone-dry desert, Africa doesn’t do small. It’s the second-largest continent on Earth, home to more megafauna than anywhere else: lions, elephants, crocodiles, giraffes, and creatures with no business being that large, roaming free.
Its terrain is stitched with 3,000+ protected areas: marine sanctuaries, biosphere reserves, rainforest pockets, and endless open plains. From the Congo Basin to the Kalahari, from the Sahara to the Serengeti, the continent breathes contrast, both ancient and urgently alive. Cultural diversity? Off the charts. Religion, cuisine, textiles, music, architecture—it’s not a monolith, it’s a mosaic. And when it comes to wildlife, Africa isn’t a highlight reel; it is the show.

ZAMBIA

Zambia, situated in the heart of Southern Africa, is celebrated for its incredible abundance of water and mineral wealth. The landscape is dominated by a high, well-watered plateau, vast woodlands, and dramatic river valleys. Towering waterfalls, major river systems, and massive lakes are all stitched together by a warm tropical climate and fertile soil. The country’s two defining natural features, the mighty Zambezi River and the extensive Copperbelt, stand in striking contrast. One is the lifeblood of agriculture and hydroelectric power, featuring the breathtaking Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya—The Smoke that Thunders), the other is a region rich in copper and cobalt that drives the national economy. Together, they form a nation poised on the cusp of immense development. Formerly the British protectorate of Northern Rhodesia, Zambia gained independence in 1964 and has since sought to diversify an economy heavily reliant on a single commodity. Bordered by eight countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, Zambia’s (relatively) large population is concentrated along the historic Line of Rail. Just under ten percent (3,000,000+) live in the capital city, Lusaka. Its wilderness areas are expansive and biodiverse. Over 20 national parks, including the world-renowned South Luangwa and Kafue National Parks, support numerous big game species and host one of the largest concentrations of leopards in Africa.

VICTORIA FALLS

It isn't merely a waterfall; it is Mosi-oa-Tunya (that means The Smoke That Thunders in the Tswana language), a geological monument that aggressively cleaves the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. When it comes to falling water, it’s the “greatest Show on Earth”. The natural anomaly is significant, not only for its sensory appeal, but for its exceptional geological and geomorphological features. The spray, the mist, and the rainbows are unparalleled. Drawing colossal might from the massive Zambezi River, which begins the journey far in the northern Zambian/Angolan highlands, this Natural Wonder of the World is the largest single curtain of falling water on the planet. The river's full, furious width slams into a basalt chasm, plunging 354' to unleash a deafening roar and a tower of iridescent spray visible for 30 miles, daring anyone to witness its raw, untamed power.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

The Zambezi River's rainy season dictates what happens at Victoria Falls. Any change in weather upstream completely determines what the 25-story of rock looks like and which exciting activities are available. When the river is high (usually peaking around March to May), the massive amount of water is spectacular, but the view is often completely hidden by a huge cloud of mist. Conversely, when the river is lower (mid-August to November) the sheer spectacle is less impressive (yet still awe-inspiring for most people), but it becomes safe enough for thrilling activities like entering Devil's Pool or racing up and down the world-class rapids of the Zambezi Gorge.

VICTORIA FALLS WALKING TOUR

The walking tour of Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side offers the most expansive frontal views of the waterfall, covering approximately 75% of the gorge's width. The route spans just under two miles and typically requires 1.5 - 2 hours to complete at a moderate pace (accounting for numerous photo ops along the way). Winding through a lush rainforest ecosystem sustained entirely by the spray from the Zambezi River, the paved path guides visitors past a series of numbered viewing points. Notable highlights along the trail include the statue of explorer David Livingstone, the plummeting water at the Devil’s Cataract, the thunderous Main Falls, and the towering Rainbow Falls. The circuit concludes at Danger Point, a rocky outcrop providing an unimpeded perspective of the water rushing into the narrow Batoka Gorge (…and no, don’t climb over the protective rope to obtain a killer view).

SECRET TOUR + DINNER EXPERIENCE

Extensive internet sleuthing may provide answers or guests can simply wait and see. Additional information will be provided prior to departure. The four-hour event should be “memorable”. Hint: it may get bananas but a life jacket isn’t required.

LIVINSTONE ISLAND + DEVIL’S POOL WALKING SAFARI

A journey few get to take and none forget. Follow in the footsteps of Dr. David Livingstone while stepping off the beaten path and onto the very edge of Victoria Falls on an unforgettable walking safari to Livingstone Island. The guided experience is available only when the mighty Zambezi’s flow lessens and the waterfall recedes, allowing guests to cautiously tread from the riverbank, along the edge of Victoria Falls, to Livingstone Island. This is no ordinary tour; it’s a front-row immersion into one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Led by experienced guides (they better be very very experienced) who share captivating stories about the island’s history and the falls’ geology, the route takes guests through ancient landscapes and right up to the edge of the gorge (spy the tiny human in the photo below). This is where Livingstone Island awaits, a remote outpost perched above a 350' drop (and yes, this would be incredibly illegal in the USA). Whether preparing to swim in Devil’s Pool or simply soaking up the experience from dry land, the walk itself is part of the magic; rugged, scenic, and deeply memorable.

VICTORIA FALLS BRIDGE ZIP LINE + BUNGEE JUMP

Most people perceive the Victoria Falls Bridge as just a crossing for automobiles and pedestrians. Wrong. It is a 365'-high platform suspended over the churning Batoka Gorge, acting as the ultimate altar for adrenaline. With the thunderous roar of the Falls providing a chaotic soundtrack and the Zambezi River rushing below, this steel giant separates the timid from the wild. Since 1994, 300,000+ thrill-seekers have surrendered to gravity here, entrusting their lives to one of the world’s most experienced operations in a pursuit of pure, unadulterated velocity. This is not a sightseeing tour; it is a confrontation with the void (and fear), set against a backdrop of raw, natural power.

Guests have three activity options. The Bungee Jump offers a visceral, headfirst plummet into the spray, a free fall that snaps back just as the river rushing below comes into focus. For a different breed of G-force, the Bridge Swing hurls bodies into a massive, heart-stopping pendulum arc, slicing through the mist with terrifying speed. Alternatively, tear across international lines on the Bridge Slide, a high-velocity zip from Zambia to Zimbabwe that turns the sheer drop into a blurry, high-wire sprint (super exaggerated).

Those who conquer the bridge, gravity, and acrophobia will truly “enjoy” one of the craziest activities in the world. And next time someone brags about that new rollercoaster they rode, all that needs to be said is “that’s cute.”

ZAMBEZI RIVER WHITE WATER JET BOAT

Below the thunder of Victoria Falls, the Batoka Gorge transforms into an amphitheater for mechanical violence as a high-performance jet boat tears a jagged scar through the Zambezi River. This is not a scenic cruise; it is a high-velocity confrontation with hydrodynamics, where the vessel skims mere inches over boiling rapids and razor-sharp basalt rocks at breakneck speeds. The twin water-jet propulsion system screams against the acoustic backdrop of the canyon, executing hair-trigger maneuvers that defy inertia—sudden stops and violent, G-force-inducing 360-degree spins that instantly convert the cockpit into a chaotic vortex of whitewater spray. Every second is a calculated flirtation with disaster, stripping away the serenity of the African landscape to reveal a raw, visceral battleground where steel and adrenaline collide with the unforgiving power of the river.

ELEPHANT ENCOUNTER (OPTIONAL)

The elephant encounter in Victoria Falls offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat and intimate setting. Set within the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for previously orphaned or abandoned elephants, this activity is both enlightening and impactful. The experience begins with a detailed presentation about the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs that support the sanctuary’s elephants. Guests embark on a guided experience that allows them to interact with elephants up close, learning about their conservation, behavior and biology. The encounter provides a profound and unforgettable connection with one of Africa’s most iconic species. Knowledgeable guides accompany participants throughout the experience, sharing fascinating insights and stories about the elephants and their role in the ecosystem. Guests will gain insights into the threats facing these majestic creatures and the efforts to ensure their survival.
