BALI • JULY 8-19, 2026

Getting to Bali—easy. Finding accommodations and day tours in Bali—easy. Following the masses of “influencers” and embarking on IG tours (yuck)—easy. Maximizing one’s experience on the expansive island—not at all easy. That’s why a cookie-cutter itinerary just won’t cut it (pun intended). Don’t be mistaken, this is a 100% custom package. It’s impossible to find an identical offering anywhere else. Seasick and Field Studies Collective have created something special, something unique, something for those who want the ultimate international adventure package. Period.

How so? Conquer multiple coastal dive sites, including a WWII shipwreck. For those who are already scuba certified, cool! A unique package has been designed. For the uninitiated (aka “not certified”), a full PADI open water scuba certification (plus every piece of necessary rental gear) is included—this “cert” is valid for eternity. After completion of the course, travel anywhere, anytime, with anyone, and simply show proof of certification to a local scuba operator to dive wherever desired. It is the lifetime pass to the underwater world. Boom! And for those who are not certified nor want to be, a basic snorkel package is available. After rinsing off the saltwater it’s time to trade sleep for adrenaline with a pre-dawn-active-volcano-trek. But wait, there’s more! River raft seven miles downstream in Bali’s lush jungles (water fights with random tourists is guaranteed). Factor in temple explorations, waterfalls, monkey encounters, and the unfiltered energy of Balinese culture—from its cuisine to its music. And, of course, everyone will have the opportunity to recover with plenty of inexpensive massages.

At this point, many readers are probably already convinced, but Seasick would be remiss if price wasn’t mentioned. It is difficult to find a destination with more value. Eleven nights in three different resorts plus all the aforementioned for under $2,500 make this adventure a no-brainer.

Field Studies first hit the trails in Fall of 2022 with small groups of students and a big love for the outdoors. Word got out, and more students joined in, excited to share fresh air adventures with new friends! As we grew, so did our ambitions. We constructed our gear shed, built a team, trained leaders, and exponentially grew the number of trips we put on. But at its core, our club stayed the same—a group of adventurers looking for good times, good views, and great stories. We’re still writing this story, one excursion at a time. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just curious about what’s out there, there’s always room for more in our community!

BALI

The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with over 17,000 islands spreading between the Pacific and the Indian Oceans. Straddling the equator, the islands of Indonesia bridge the continents of Asia and Australia with a population of more than 280 million people, 200+ ethnic groups, and over 300 spoken languages or dialects. Among the most well-known islands are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan (formerly Borneo), Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), the Maluku Islands (better known as Moluccas), Papua — and Bali.

Also known as the Land of the Gods, Bali is more than a beautiful island; it is a magical experience with its spectacular mountain scenery, looming volcanoes, lush rainforests, and terraced rice fields. Bali enchants with its dramatic dances and colorful ceremonies. It pampers with its luxurious beach resorts. It thrills with its world-class diving. And everywhere on this lovely island visitors will meet warm and friendly people. With a population of over four million, the island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. The Balinese are a most devout people, and a large part of their lives is dedicated to rites and ceremonies aimed at maintaining harmony in this world.

To fall in love with Bali is easy.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

Due to its proximity to the equator (8 degrees south aka 600 mi), Bali enjoys a tropical climate with warm and humid days year-round. The island has two distinct seasons: wet and dry. The dry season in Bali typically runs from April - October, offering the island's most favorable weather with lower humidity, cool breezes, and plenty of sunshine. Consequently, this period (especially from May - September) is widely considered the best time to visit for enjoying beaches and outdoor activities without the interruption of tropical rain.

BALI DIVE RESORT AND SPA

Located in Tulamben, Bali Dive Resort and Spa is a laid-back property with spacious bungalows and several pools. The 19 bungalows and deluxe rooms are sprawled amongst a private oceanfront. Bali Dive Resort and Spa is widely regarded as one of Tulamben’s top resorts. Don’t expect a huge gift shop or a fancy lobby. Instead, enjoy a quiet dive resort with an attentive staff, high-value massage facilities, and tasty Balinese, Asian, and Western cuisine. Diving is accessible just a few steps away from the resort by boat, van, or shore. Don’t like long rides to the dive sites? No worries, the longest ride is only seven minutes (just enough time to enjoy a glimpse of Mount Agung that dominates the scenery behind the resort).

DIVING

Tulamben was once an anonymous fishing village in the dry lands of Karangasem. Today, it’s one of Bali’s busiest diving destinations. What draws scores of divers from around the world? The USAT Liberty and top-tier muck diving. The Liberty shipwreck is considered Bali's most popular dive site. The American ship was an armed cargo steamship that was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942. The years under the sea have transformed it to one of Indonesia's most beautiful artificial reefs. Stunning gorgonian sea fans, huge soft coral trees and big barrel sponges all flourish here. The ship is a haven for emperor fish, batfish, sweetlips, and parrotfish. For many, the name “Bali” conjures up images of rice paddies, beautiful beaches and towering temples. Yet, for those in the know, this iconic Indonesian island is more often seen as home to some of the best diving in the world. But not just any diving: muck diving. What is muck diving? It’s a dive experience that defines the mud and mire that lay at the bottom of many dive sites. It is here where the treasures are found. The macro bonanza starts in just knee-deep water: juvenile moray eels, lionfish, anemone shrimp, needle shrimp, zebra crab, nudibranch, ghost pipefish, boxer crab, frogfish, mimic octopus, scorpionfish; the list is endless.

In summary, Tulamben’s dive sites offer great diversity: vertical walls and sandy slopes, shipwrecks, limestone shorelines and black volcanic outcrops, peaceful bays, and coral-covered ridges.

PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world’s largest ocean exploration and diver organization, operating in 186 countries and territories, with a global network of more than 6,600 dive centers and resorts and over 128,000 professional members worldwide. Issuing more than 1 million certifications each year, and with over 29 million certifications to date, PADI enables people around the world to seek adventure and save the ocean through underwater education, life-changing experiences and travel.

For over 50 years, PADI is undeniably The Way the World Learns to Dive, maintaining its high standards for dive training, safety and customer service, monitored for worldwide consistency and quality. With a longstanding commitment to environmental conservation, PADI is leading the way for millions of people to actively explore, steward and protect the ocean through its course offerings and partnerships with like-minded, mission-driven organizations. PADI embodies a global commitment to ocean health with its mission to create a billion torchbearers to explore and protect the ocean.

PADI Open Water Diver certification
As the first scuba certification level, a PADI Instructor will teach students how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment. By the end of the course, students will have the skills and knowledge to dive at home or abroad and be an ambassador for the underwater world. Learn about scuba diving principles and terminology (either offline or online), then learn basic scuba skills in a pool (or pool-like environment) with a PADI Instructor. When students are ready, they make four training dives in an open water environment (ocean or lake, for example) with an instructor’s support and guidance.

PADI Discover Scuba Diving
Want to sample scuba diving before deciding to get the PADI Open Water Diver certification? During a Discover Scuba Diving experience, students can try scuba diving for the first time in a pool or calm water environment. A PADI Professional will provide scuba gear, explain basic scuba diving skills and answer questions. Discover Scuba Diving is the perfect way to test the waters (pun intended). In a very short time, students learn basic scuba skills and take their first breaths underwater.

BOBOCABIN KINTAMANI

Bobocabin Kintamani delivers a modern, high-altitude glamping escape for travelers who want to unplug and wake up to one of Bali’s less visited landscapes. The minimalist cabins keep things sleek and functional, but the real thrill is the front-row view of Mount Batur and the dramatic Lake Batur caldera. Each pod uses smart tech—think customizable lighting, climate control, and a tint-on-demand window that turns sunrise into a cinematic reveal right from your bed.

Traditional mountain stay? Nope. This is a mountain stay on a tropical island in the heart of Indonesia! Perched on the rim of an active volcano, Bobocabin offers quiet nights, clear skies for stargazing, and quick access to the Mount Batur trekking trail (yes, the 3:00am kickoff is worth it). After the climb, return to a cozy cabin with hot water, private bathrooms, and even potentially hot tubs. It’s a unique, immersive way to experience Bali’s wild side—glamping with a pulse.

MOUNT BATUR SUNRISE TREK

Hiking an active volcano is an experience reserved for a select few. This is no ordinary stroll, though no K2; the trail is steep, loose, and relentless all the way to the summit. But the payoff is legendary. The sunrise panorama looking out across the island at Mount Agung (the island's other active volcano) will be seared into memory. It’s the kind of raw, awe-inspiring view that makes someone forget their legs are burning. In traditional Balinese fashion, the reward is a unique, high-energy breakfast featuring hot drinks, a banana sandwich, and a hard-boiled egg. Hold up, that’s only part of the climb. The mission continues: conquer the main crater’s rim. Here, trekkers can peer into the abyss, capture footage, and encounter the area’s resident, opportunistic monkeys (they love sunglasses and phones). After appreciating the mountain’s local culture, descent follows, and home base aka Bobocabin is on the horizon for some relaxation (massage please).

The rest of the day is dedicated to serious refueling, restorative leisure, and soaking (figuratively and literally) in the surroundings. The experience ends exactly how a mountain adventure should: relaxing in the evening atmosphere around a well-deserved campfire, celebrating a truly "bad ass" start to the day.

The property is designed as a wellness retreat (or party pad for those who prefer), featuring the Saoca Mandala Spa perched by the Oos River and a waterfall, and providing a large outdoor swimming pool with a sunken bar, a well-equipped (exaggeration) fitness center, and dedicated yoga areas.
