ROATAN • JUNE 19-26, 2027

Option 1: spend the week scuba diving (reefs + wrecks + optional shark feed), renting ATVs + buggies, ziplining, and fondling wildlife (monkeys + sloths). Option 2: spend the week chillin’ at the day-use overwater bungalows (complimentary for Seasick guests), resting by the pool, and napping at the beach (beware of sunburn). Option 3: do it all!

Welcome to a Caribbean summer vacation — Seasick style. First (and most important), Roatan’s Turquoise Bay Resort is located in the island’s quieter and less traveled region so forget about the mobs of tourists and hordes of cruise shippers (amen). Second, guests have access to all the famous attractions on the West End but also the unpopulated sites and activities to the east. Third, the property is all-inclusive so accommodations, water sports, meals + beverages (including alcohol), and airport transfers are included. And fourth, ocean enthusiasts listen up! Divers and snorkelers can enjoy mini-walls, dramatic coral formations, wrecks, and no crowds. Expect 84° water, 80’ visibility and plenty of sunshine. And forget about long boat rides, it’s only five minutes to the house reef. Rad!

So to the solo travelers, the families (with young ones), the couples, or the small group of friends, join Seasick for a fun adventure that doesn’t require any 10+ hour flights, hideous jet lag, or complicated visas. Roatan is close, convenient, safe, and waiting to be explored.

ROATAN

Roatan is the largest and most developed of the Bay Islands, situated about 30 miles off the north coast of Honduras and in the western regions of the Caribbean Sea. At 36 miles long and less than 5 miles wide, Roatan has a total land mass of about 32 square miles and sits atop the world’s second largest coral reef. For a small island, Roatan’s geography is amazingly diverse. Visitors can experience everything from flat sandy beaches, rocky volcanic shores, mangrove forests, lush valleys, and steep rainforest-covered hilltops.

It has a mountainous backbone surrounded by warm waters. Positioned at the southern terminus of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the island is enveloped by coral reefs, which provide calm, clear protected beaches for swimming, snorkeling, and hosts many varieties of sea life for divers. Honduras is said to have about 70% of the sea life in the Caribbean as it attracts an array of marine life from macro critters to the largest fish in the sea, whale sharks (fingers crossed)!

Guests who want to take a break from diving can indulge in some of the fantastic land activities Roatan has to offer. Imagine flying on a zipline 330' over treetops and soaring through the tropical vegetation high above the forest. Or how about an afternoon gettin' muddy on a an ATV or buggy excursion? There are also more relaxed land tours such as the monkey and sloth hangout (get that camera ready)!

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

Roatan is located almost midway between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, which gives the island a tropical climate. Like most Caribbean destinations, Roatan has a rainy season and a dry season, known locally as invierno (winter aka cooler season) and verano (summer aka wet season). November to February is considered winter and May to October is considered summer. June weather can be defined as caliente (that means hot in Spanish), bringing some of the warmest sea water temperatures of the year (divers will be grateful).

June Averages - High: 90°F • Low: 79°F • Sea Water: 84°F • Daylight Hours: 13 • Sunshine Hours: 7 • Rainy Days: 12 • Precipitation: 3.8 in

TURQUOISE BAY RESORT

Situated on Roatan’s northeast shore and entrenched in the iconic Caribbean vibe (aka “ya mon” style), Turquoise Bay is the sole dive resort in this lush, remote area of the island, offering guests exclusive access to uncrowded dive sites. Perched on a scenic hillside with ocean vistas, the property features tranquil accommodations in both Ocean View and Garden View rooms. Guests can experience Roatan's longest private white-sand beach, which features shaded palapas, lounge chairs, and a beach bar. Shielded by a mangrove island and an offshore reef, the calm bay waters are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or exploring via complimentary kayaks. Waiter service is available both poolside and at the beach because getting up and walking to the nearest watering hole would be too much effort.

DIVING

Roatan (part of the Bay Islands) is a world-renowned scuba diving destination. Turquoise Bay is the only dive resort in this area of the island which means few, if any, other dive operators will be at the dive sites. The North side of Roatan offers scuba divers the unique opportunity to experience the largest variety of reef topography on the island. Roatan is surrounded by the world’s second largest barrier reef which is also one of the healthiest in the Caribbean due to the Roatan Marine Park and the local dive community which encourages conservative diving practices. Explore sloping plateaus which are perfect for spotting macro life, sheer walls with large soft corals and barrel sponges, wreck dives abundant with life, crevices, trenches, overhangs and cavern systems.

Depth: 10'-130'+ • Visibility: Generally 75'-100' • Currents: Minimal • Skill Level: Beginner - Advanced • Water Temp: 84°F • Dive Sites: 50+

Featured Creatures: There are more than 300 identified fish species in Bay Island waters. Divers may see dolphins, groupers, rays, barracudas, angelfish, squids, butterfly fish, parrotfish, yellow tail snappers, horse eye jacks, octopuses, lobsters, crabs, moray eels, nurse sharks, and even an occasional whale shark.

TURQUOISE DIVERS

Turquoise Bay Resort’s on-site dive center is operated by Turquoise Divers. They are an Elite PADI 5 Star Instructor Development and National Geographic Dive Center. Turquoise Divers opened for business in April 2001 (as Subway Watersports) and soon became well known for its quality and personal service. The facility at Turquoise Bay opened in March 2006. They offer small groups of 6-12 divers per boat and a PADI Divemaster guides all dives. The dive sites are close by so guests often come back to the dive shop for their surface intervals. When going to some of the further dive sites, a two-tank dive will be conducted in the morning and one tank in the afternoon. Again, they are the only dive operator diving on this part of Roatan which means it is unlikely to see other scuba operators during the dive.

All-inclusive dive packages include three boat dives per day. Should the sea conditions not allow diving on the Roatan North shore, guests will go by bus to an alternate location on the South side of Roatan. When diving on the South side, two boat dives per day are offered instead of three.

PADI DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age 10. No prior experience. Candidates must be in reasonable physical health and are required to complete a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire before entering the water. Basic swimming ability + water comfort. Fear of sharks is optional.
COST: $130 US cash or credit card (includes 19% Government Tax + Service Charge). Paid to Turquoise Bay Resort

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program serves as a short-term introductory experience designed for individuals who wish to explore underwater diving without committing to a full certification course. Conducted under the direct supervision of a certified PADI professional, this program demystifies the basics of scuba diving in a highly controlled environment. Participants learn fundamental safety guidelines and equipment operations before transitioning to a confined water session, typically a swimming pool, to practice essential diving skills and gain confidence breathing underwater.

Following the initial skills overview, participants often have the opportunity to embark on an open water dive to a maximum depth of 40'. This closely monitored excursion allows beginners to experience marine life and underwater ecosystems firsthand while maintaining a strict focus on safety. Although the Discover Scuba Diving experience does not grant a permanent certification, the skills learned during the program can frequently be credited toward the PADI Open Water Diver course, streamlining the transition for those who choose to pursue formal certification.

WAIHUKA SHARK DIVE

REQUIREMENTS: Advanced Open Water Diver. Minimum age 12
COST: $138 US cash or credit card (includes 19% Government Tax + Service Charge). Paid to Turquoise Bay Resort

“Cara Cara”, which in Spanish means “face to face”, is a famous shark dive in Roatan. It is organized by the Waihuka Dive Center situated on the south side of the island. Here, divers are literally “face to face” with a dozen, all female, Caribbean reef sharks measuring up to 10 feet in length.

It is a 10-15 minute boat ride from the Waihuka Dive Center to the “Cara Cara” dive site. All dives start with a detailed briefing by the staff prior to entering the water. The maximum depth is 70 feet and bottom time 30-35 minutes. Visibility is typically 80+ feet. Cara Cara may have mild to strong current so divers must use a descent line down to the flat plateau. The dive starts in a stationary position, with a little wall behind everyone so that the sharks will never come from behind. The divemaster manages a closed bucket of dead fish which attracts the sharks. Based on the divemaster's discretion (and if the current is not too strong) divers have the ability to swim around with the sharks!

Towards the end of the dive, the divemaster requests that everyone returns to their initial position. He then opens the bucket, and the real show begins! All the sharks fight for the best bite. Usually, the sharks leave when the bucket is empty. Empty bucket means it is time to surface.

NOTES: Underwater photo and video cameras are allowed, however GoPro cameras are not allowed. A professional video is also available for sale after the dive.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ZIPLINE

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age 5. Participants under 70 lbs lack the momentum needed to clear the long lines independently and must ride tandem with a guide or parent.
COST: Included in Seasick package

Like thrills? How about soaring above the tree tops?

The Extremely Extreme Zipline includes 9 incredibly long zip lines that total roughly 2 miles of pure adrenaline fun! The longest zipline is 1,980' (over 1/3mile) and the highest zipline is 328' (imagine a 30-story building). The tour is perfect for everyone including first-timers and people of all ages and levels of fitness. Pirates of the Caribbean is the only zipline on Roatan with auto braking. Riders relax while enjoying the breathtaking views of both sides of the island and then slow down via gravity with no anxiety or fear of having to brake on their own. At the end of each line a guide greets each rider by unclipping and then clipping them onto the next line. Tours ranges from 60-90 minutes depending on the size of the group. It is called Extremely Extreme because it's extremely high, extremely easy, extremely safe, and extremely fun for all ages.

BRING: Tennis shoes or strap back sandals recommended. Comfortable clothing, camera and/or phone, cash (drinks + tips), sunscreen, and bug repellent.

NOTES: Water, soft drinks and T-shirts are available for purchase. Restroom facilities available. Guests may bring their own action camera (attach to the helmet or use a selfie stick).

ATV + BUGGY TOUR

REQUIREMENTS: Driver (minimum age 16 + license). Passenger (minimum age 4). No prior experience. Not recommended for individuals with back + neck problems, recent surgeries, or heart conditions.
COST: Included in Seasick package

Here’s how it works. Upon arrival, the guides will provide driving instructions and a safety briefing. Then it’s time to follow them in an off-road vehicle. Each ATV is single occupancy and each buggy is a shared, two-person vehicle. The vehicles have an automatic transmission so driving is easy. Get ready to get dirty, wet and maybe even muddy. On the trail, guests will cross the island on a mountain ridge and drive on narrow jungle paths, village back roads, steep terrain, and forest dirt roads. Enjoy views of nature, the coast, beaches and possibly witness Wishy Willys (indigenous iguanas) and Monkey Lalas, a local species of lizard, as well as parrots, toucans and deer.

BRING: Tennis shoes, strap back sandals, water shoes or dive booties are recommended. Comfortable clothing, camera and/or phone, cash for drinks and tips, sunscreen and bug repellent.

MONKEY + SLOTH HANGOUT

REQUIREMENTS: No minimum age. No prior experience. Fear of fur is optional.
COST: Included in Seasick package

Roatan offers tourists the ultimate opportunity to engage in some serious monkey business while simultaneously mastering the art of doing absolutely nothing. Visitors frequently find themselves going bananas over the resident capuchins, who are notorious for picking pockets faster than a seasoned magician, while the local sloths provide a tree-mendous lesson in aggressive relaxation. It is a highly coordinated operation where humans pay good money to be treated like literal jungle gyms by over-caffeinated primates, only to immediately transition to a painfully slow photo-op with creatures that redefine the concept of "hanging out." Ultimately, these island excursions prove that whether one prefers a chaotic whirlwind of theft-prone fur or a mammal that moves at the speed of continental drift, Roatan strictly refuses to monkey around when delivering high-quality wildlife encounters.

BRING: Comfortable clothing, camera and/or phone, cash for drinks and tips.
