BALI, INDONESIA • APRIL 4 - 15, 2020

ABOUT THE TRIP

From the moment you witness the sun rise above the Bali Sea, with jukungs (traditional fishing boats) at the water’s edge and Lombok Island in the distance, you will be hooked. Maybe it’s the smell of incense from the villager’s religious offerings that permeate the air. Maybe it’s the tranquility of being at a resort that has no fancy lobbies, food courts, or swim-up bars. Or maybe it’s the absence of other tourists in this less-traveled corner of the island. Whatever the reason, Bali has a vibe that can’t be beat.

Getting to Bali is easy. Finding accommodations and day tours in Bali is also easy. Maximizing your experience on the expansive island is not easy. That’s why a cookie cutter itinerary just won’t cut it (pun intended). Let’s get it straight, this is a 100% custom package. You will not find an identical offering anywhere else. This is a dive trip. Up to 24 dives to be precise. But actually this trip is so much more. It’s hard to believe that people visit the island and all they do is dive. That’s a crime. Yes, we will dive (a lot), but we will also explore waterfalls, villages, and a water palace. We will river raft. We will rent scooters, ride along the coast, and end at a hidden waterfall. We will “play” with wild monkeys. We will enjoy local cuisine, music, and dance. And, of course, we will have the opportunity to indulge in plenty of inexpensive massages.

At this point, many of you are probably already convinced, but we would be remiss if we didn’t mention price. It is difficult to find a destination with more value. Eleven nights in two different resorts plus all the aforementioned AND airfare for around three grand make this trip a no-brainer.

ABOUT BALI

The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with over 17,000 islands spreading between the Pacific and the Indian Oceans. Straddling the equator, the islands of Indonesia bridge the continents of Asia and Australia with a population of more than 265 million people, 200+ ethnic groups, and over 300 spoken languages or dialects. Among the most well-known islands are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan (formerly Borneo), Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), the Maluku Islands (better known as Moluccas), Papua— and Bali.

Also known as the Land of the Gods, Bali is more than a beautiful island; it is a magical experience with its spectacular mountain scenery, looming volcanoes, lush rainforests and terraced rice fields. Bali enchants with its dramatic dances and colorful ceremonies. It pampers with its luxurious beach resorts. It thrills with its world-class diving. And everywhere on this lovely island you will meet warm and friendly people. With a population of over four million, the island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. The Balinese are a most devout people and a large part of their lives is dedicated to rites and ceremonies aimed at maintaining harmony in this world.

You will fall in love with Bali.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

Due to its close proximity to the equator (8 degrees south), Bali enjoys a tropical climate with warm and humid days year-round. The island has two distinct seasons: wet and dry. For many reasons, the best time to visit Bali is April, May, June, September and October, just before and just after high season. It's still dry season and it's slightly less humid. In April, you can expect average temperatures of 81°F, lows of 72°F, highs of 90°F, and a monthly rainfall average of 2.5" (although Tulamben tends to receive less precipitation).

Tulamben Peak Diving Season: April - July and September - November • Dry Season: April - September • Air Temp: 72°-91°F • Water Temp: 79°-86°F

BALI DIVE RESORT AND SPA

Bali Dive Resort and Spa is laid-back property with spacious bungalows and several pools. The 19 bungalows and deluxe rooms of Bali Dive Resort and Spa, located in the area of Tulamben, are sprawled amongst lush tropical gardens on it's private oceanfront.

Bali Dive Resort and Spa is widely regarded as one of Tulamben’s top resorts. As already mentioned, don’t expect a huge gift shop or a fancy lobby. Just expect a quiet dive resort with an attentive staff, incredible spa, and delicious Balinese, Asian, and Western cuisine.

Diving is accessible just a few steps away from the resort by boat, van or shore. Don’t like long rides to the dive sites? No worries, the longest ride is around seven minutes (just enough time to enjoy a glimpse of Mount Agung that dominates the scenery behind the resort).

THE DIVING

Bali's dive sites offer great diversity: vertical walls and sandy slopes, shipwrecks, limestone shorelines and black volcanic outcrops, peaceful bays and coral-covered ridges. Due to Bali Dive Resort’s close proximity to the dive sites, dawn dives through night dives are available. Close proximity also allows for more dives each day.

Some of Bali's most famous dive sites:

LIBERTY SHIPWRECK

The Liberty shipwreck is considered Bali's most popular dive site. The American ship USAT Liberty was an armed cargo steamship that was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942. The years under the sea have transformed it to one of Indonesia's most beautiful artificial reefs. Stunning gorgonian sea fans, huge soft coral trees and big-barrel sponges all flourish here. A resident school of big-eyed jacks live on and around the ship and are unafraid of divers, so it's safe to enter the school and have them whirl around you. The ship is also a haven for emperors, batfish, sweetlips and parrotfish.

SERAYA SECRETS

This is one of the latest ‘discoveries’ among the Tulamben area’s dive sites. It was named by famed underwater journalist and book author Michael Aw after the beachfront Scuba Seraya Resort. The name ‘Seraya’ comes from nearby Mount Seraya. At Mount Seraya’s coral encrusted foot lie some of Bali’s most beautiful dive sites. Seraya Secrets is known as Critter Heaven. The macro bonanza starts as soon as you are in water just knee deep: juvenile moray eels, lionfish, anemone shrimp, needle shrimp, zebra crab, nudibranch, ghost pipefish, boxer crab, frogfish, mimic octopus, scorpionfish; the list is endless. The rare harlequin shrimp has become the trademark of Seraya Secrets. Some of the areas have evolved into cleaning stations where fish such as coral groupers, sweetlips or moray eels have their mouths and gills cleaned by tiny shrimp picking out parasites.
